Since I went back to work, one of the things I haven’t been looking forward to is riding the MRT, but this is inevitable since I have to attend meetings.
I left a meeting and was at the MRT at about 6 this evening; around 7 pm, I was contemplating on ditching the MRT and take the bus instead, but I resolved to stay put “dahil sayang naman yung P12 ko” and it seemed the only way to get out of the station was to jump over the railing and land on a busy EDSA. Since I also wasn’t in the mood to do “bodily harm” – elbow my way, step on a few feet, or use my bag as an offensive/defensive weapon, I just sat on the bench near the guard’s platform.
And I’m glad I did. Clearly, Manong Guard was in the swing of things. He was using the megaphone, reminding everybody to “Keep your feet off the yilo line;” perhaps sensing that the passengers were tense because the station seemed busier than usual: “Pasensiya na kayo, Miyerkoles pa lang pero busy dahil may simba sa Baclaran (Just be patient, I know it’s just Wednesday but it’s mass day at Baclaran [Church]).”
He was mumbling a couple of other things and laughing to himself, but I couldn’t hear him since it was a dreary, rainy evening. However, I think at one point, when he noticed that the women getting off and on the train were starting to get mad because of the pushing and shoving, he said “Beheyb, beheyb (Behave, behave)” in jest.
I’m not sure if the other people on the station noticed these, but I sure did! And it put a smile on my face because he was doing a great job.
Kudos to Manong Guard!

dapat binibigyan ng cattle prod yung mga guard sa mrt, lalo na kung may pasaway na mga pasahero.
