My father recently came to Manila to attend a relative’s funeral. Being the resident techie in the house, I’m almost always in my room, tinkering with the pc or online. Perhaps missing my company, he comes over, lies on my bed, and says:
- What is a blog? It’s an online journal/diary.
- Can I use the phone while using DSL? Yup.
- I should get DSL. Yup, will save you money buying newspapers (Ouch, sorry to the news industry and journalists; I know you’re having a hard time right now).
- Can you look for Frank Sinatra and Cliff Richard songs online and give me a copy. Better burn it in a format my cd player can play. Ok (started to search online).
- My computer’s monitor is busted. How much did you buy yours for? P6,000 (He is looking pensive now) -– OK, I’ll give you mine (the following day, I bought a 19″ monitor).
Funny how having a techie conversation with parents turns out.
