June 12 – Philippine Independence Day. We’re at our 111th year (since 1898). The most fun I can remember celebrating this day was during the centennial year. We were still living in Kamuning and attended the street party at Tomas Morato. However, someone obviously drunk threw his bottle of San Miguel near us, hitting CYG’s foot with a tiny shard of glass – that didn’t dampen spirits, though.
Ton’s birthday. Of course, June 12 also happens to be my (not so) little brother’s birthday, which we are celebrating with spaghetti cooked kiddie-style (sweet and with hotdogs) and a tub of ice cream (for me). Brought forth into the world through induced-labor, he surprised everyone with a full head of hair. He was such a cute toddler and I’m not kidding when I tell you that he looked like a Sto. Niño at that age – yes, with light brown, curly hair! (I have proof – will ask the parents to ship baby pictures soon).
While I think that I adopted his love for 90’s music – Nirvana, Pearl Jam, GNR – and all things rock and roll, his knowledge of history amazes me. So that’s what I miss when he’s not around; I don’t have anyone to discuss world history or cable news (and sports!) with. And I think it’s important to mention that the only time you can see me lining up for a movie is when I and Ton get excited over something like Hellboy, X-Men, or 300. So if you see me with a guy who looks Spanish/Middle Eastern – that would not be a boyfriend, that’ll probably be my brother
