I nearly hyper-ventilated when I read today’s horoscope that said I should think twice about committing to anything. Ummm… I thought I’ve been enjoying a commitment-free life lately (that is, moving out of a 5-year job and just taking my time to do things)… and so the pronouncement from the stars had me blurting out – WHAT?!!! THAT’S TOO SOON – I’M NOT GIVING THIS UP JUST YET!
Ok, just let me explain that I equate the term “commitment” to a 9-5 job. In my years of working, I can predict that the life expectancy of any desk job for me is a maximum of 5 years. Plus, I get bored easily when I find myself doing the same things over and over again.
What I find, though, is that I really like learning different things and having the chance to integrate them. Call it having multiple competencies or being multi-disciplinary; that’s what floats my boat. I guess being like this has its advantages:
- I learn things I’m really interested in
- I’ve taken to risk-taking
- I get to be creative and innovative
- I generally find that I’m slowly inching my way to attaining the lifestyle I want to build for myself
- I can work in my pajamas at home (lurveeeeeeeeee this)
So, yup, I’ll be keeping the “stars” advice in mind. Oh, I found this blog “The Anti 9-5 Guide.” It’s aimed at women but I think men can appreciate it too. I haven’t read the book but the blog posts are hilarious and informative. Try “When to Breed IF at All” for starters.
