I tried changing my theme last night; found a more colorful one – lo and behold, found out that it was severely buggy! Couldn’t log-in to my dashboard, lost my post-plugin library, had to download at least 4 other plugins, which didn’t happen and didn’t have to do with my former themes. So I stayed up ’til 4 a.m. trying to make it work. I gave up.
Loaded my previous theme as soon as I woke up *sigh*. Lessons learned:
- Check compatibility of the theme with the version of my blogging software DUH
- Check the theme’s specs. e.g., is it widget-ready, are the plug-ins I want built in DUH
- Check the theme’s forum on any lengthy workarounds previous bloggers had to make, so I can make a decision on whether or not I’d want to experience the hassle too DUH
- Familiarize myself with the blogging software’s documentation (that’s the WordPress Codex) DUH
- START LEARNING TO MAKE MY OWN THEME!
